Swimming Set of the Week - May 8, 2009
Pull/swim set this week.
This week's set is in response to a recent post in the Go Swim forum regarding "spinning" while racing.
This set of 100s offers a "take it to failure" challenge as well as a mental challenge to keep track of the sendoffs. As you progress, be ready to deal with those two voices in your head... the one telling you to swim fast enough to make the next sendoff, and the one telling you to slow down so you don't make the next sendoff.
This swimming set comes from my good friend Chris Weissman. Who made him do it I'm not sure, but it's a swim set that can cover a large group, with many ability levels, and is as challenging as it is adaptable to any swimmer.
This set of 225 IMs will help you focus on how fast you FEEL rather than on how fast the clock says you're going.
This week's set is a favorite at taper time -- roughly two or three weeks away from a big meet. It asks you to do 12 X 100, descending time gradually, and with control, until you're within six seconds of your target race time on the final 100.
Starting to gear up for a championship meet in mid December. The 8 X 75 breast at a controlled descend was the main set.
Here's a practice created by our local state representatives. Should be interesting to try, but pay attention.
Heavy breaststroke practice which requires good speed as the intervals get shorter but also doesn't overload the breaststroke swim too much by mixing it with freestyle. Hopefully, this means the stroke can stay more technically correct through the set.
Here's an alternate to set #1 -- for the mortals among us.
Here's an IM set that will keep you on your toes, mentally, and keep you off balance in terms of how much energy you have when transitioning from one stroke to the next.
Now that you're a few weeks into a new season, your shoulders SHOULDN'T be hurting but, in case they are, here's an IM kick set that will give them (and only them) a rest. This one's worth trying even if your shoulders are fine.
We are a group of swimmers who swim really fast, and like to help others learn how to reach their competitive potential in the area of professional swimming.
