..my hip rotation.

In the correct forum this time I hope!

Ok (genderless) guys, I do most of my training in a 20m pool but it's for Open Water swimming, 2 k to 10 k distance at the moment, with a view to a double English channel relay next year. So with a 20m length, that means LOTS of laps.
I've only been swimming seriously for about a year & a half and have been teaching myself everything from books & the web, as there's no Master's club where I am (I'm 44 btw). I'm doing ok, have a halfway decent f/s style (now), and have improved my times (but no experienced open water swimmers live near me) , but while I could find lots of things to talk/ask about, right now coming towards the end of the Irish open water season (a balmy 15dec C), the one thing I'd like to improve would be my hip rotation, particularly as I over-trained last winter, and subsequently picked up a rotator cuff injury (another thing i knew nothing about until it hit) for the previous 2 months during this season after my 1st 10k race.
I know there's no "correct" rotation, but I feel I need a drill or something to develop my own rotation more, as I feel better when I rotate slightly more than I usually do, but I don't seem to be able to do it continuously. It's not built into my stroke the way I built in breathing and hand entry etc which is why i think a drill would help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

BTW, i bought the finis tech toc hip trainer and found immediately that it indicated (in it's limited fashion) that my rotation was ok, so no benefits from that.
Regards
Donal

I like to do a basic 1 pull for 12 kicks drill going side to side with my swimmers. The trick is not dropping the elbow when doing this though and maintaining a strong high elbow.
