Kicking beats?

I was reading and I see a lot of stuff about kick beats - like 2- 4- and 6- beats per stroke?

This seams odd to me. they are all even numbers. That means you would be kicking with your left leg when you roll to the right and with your left leg when you roll to the right. If you want to get your hips involved and your core muscles, I would think it would be an odd number of kicks.

for example you roll to your right and you kick (and pull) with your left. and use all your core muscles. - then you do the opposite. but that would require something like 3 or 5 kicks per stroke.

I did a quick search of google and every kick think I see is an even number of kick. Am I missing something?

thanks for your help
Scott

Just to further clarify - I am not even sure what you would want to do. kick down with your left and roll to your left - or kick down with your left and roll to your right... that does not matter. I would think however that what ever is better is better for both legs. This means all these kick drills should be on odd numbers like the 6- or 8- kick and switch. seems it should be 7- or 9- kicks?

You're overthinking it. Just kick, if you want to do 6 beat, kick smaller and faster. Try putting a paddle on your left hand and a fin on your right foot and see how it feels, then put the paddle on your right had and leave fin on right foot and see how that one feels. Your kicks should be small, the more you do the faster they get.
