Hi, this may have been covered many times already on this forum and i'm sure many other forums too. I am currently training for IM UK and am planning on doing breastroke for the full 4000M distance. I have tried many times to master the crawl but just cannot get it hence the reason for breaststroking. I have done the distance in the pool a few times at a steady pace and at times around 1:20 which I know is not great but as the swim is such a small part of the IM feel confident and comfortable with it.

Has anyone else completed the swim part of any IM doing breaststroke?

Not sure if anyone else has or not, but it can be a long way with any stroke. You may want to alternate some in the open water, freestyle, breaststroke, all depending on the waves. If it's wavy, I like breaststroke because I can get under the waves a bit more and sighting is much easier. Take advantage of the glide, and are you planning on wearing a wetsuit during the swim? That'll make it tougher to really get under water.

Glenn, thanks for the reply. The swim is in a local lake so hopefully won't be that choppy (apart from the start). I've been working on my glide by doing minimum stroke drills in the pool (it's a bit cold for open water yet) I'm down to 11 strokes per length (25M) at the moment and this is really helping, do you know of any other drills or tips that would help this area.

This is a good place to start!
