Coach Shoulberg on Training Age-Groupers

Posted by Glenn Mills on Apr 18, 2010 01:31PM (1,856 views)

In a recent visit to Germantown Academy, we had a chance to sit down Fran Crippen's legendary Coach, Richard Shoulberg.  In watching the practice, we did see quite a few smiles from swimmers, in what's generally known as one of the toughest training locations in the nation.

We asked Coach Shoulberg about his philosophy on training age-group swimmers, and his response follows.

In my opinion, there is a sentence in this short interview which could be one of the most important things I've ever heard in the development of the elite athlete.  Tell us if it strikes you the same way.
