Swim Pic of the Week - September 24, 2009

A shot from practice last night.  What's the quick lesson for swimmers of all levels?  Don't think too deep in this, but rather, think about what this can teach those more infrequent visitors to a pool.

Don't be too harsh Juliette, if you notice, they're right on time for their turn. :)

I don't know but ouch!!!... diving in with a pull bouy between your legs especially if your a guy

Responded Sep 24, 2009 03:31PM

Pretty funny Lori... but he's diving, which would pull the buoy AWAY from any sensitive area. JUMPING may be a totally different story. ;)

...choose the right line for your speed and right distance to dive...

I guess I was thinking back splash or wave from other siwmmers. What ever it is I still like to learn so...... I am waiting patiently for the answer. I keep looking and I still don't see it.

Glad to make you laugh. I have met my goal for the day. I always try to make some one smile.

By the way how do you all deal with girls?????? I am the head coach for high school girls for the first time and I swear its a good thing I had three boys or I would have killed them. What do you do to inspire them??? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Aen't they afraid their things get wet?????...so close to the edge??

Responded Sep 26, 2009 02:12PM

Lori, maybe a silly question but have you asked them what they want from their swimming?

Responded Sep 26, 2009 09:11PM

Head and body position ... it's easy to understand ... "fast fix" and you feel the difference right away.

Responded Sep 27, 2009 01:01AM

Yea do that at the begining of season and then go over their goals and expectations thru out the season tracking their progress. Most of them have turned it in to social hour or try to.

leave 5 seconds apart!

Nobody is wasting any time, getting right to work when its time to work.

-Juliette, it is swimming practice, swimming gear will get wet one way or another.

-Lori, don't coach girls teams ;)

It is a very hard age to deal with in terms of motivation, especially with the hormones running like they do. Everything as to be more positive and uplifting with them, versus your boys where you can lay into them a bit. Use your most experienced and dedicated swimmers to lead by example. If you don't have a very competitive team, it maybe why they are not very competitive or what they are used to with previous coaching. You could also try and establish times when they can be social before, during, and after practice. When it is not those times, then it is time to focus.

Good luck to you, there is a reason why the best or most competitive girls like training with guys. Faster, more focus, NO DRAMA.

Anticipate what equipment you'll need for practice... be prepared.
