yoo, that's a huge bodyrotation. if he's fasat that way, why not. or is he swimming a drill?! his head position is very nice. he seems streamlined too. I do not like his yellowish swim pants though ;)

I think he is checking his pace...or whether he is late for an appointment.

Responded Jul 29, 2008 01:45PM

He is trying to get an even tan on that arm

That is not freestyle...that is overrotation.

I agree with Barbara, I think that he is checking his pace.

I'll grant the recovery looks kinda of funky, but I think it's an effective stroke. He looks like he's anchored well with the right hand/arm and ready to initiate a strong pull. From what I can see it looks like he has good tension all the way through his line and will be able to easily roll that top hip down to rotate to the opposite side. On the recovery, check out the position of the upper arm - it's right in that 'satellite dish'. I think this guy is accentuating his roll, and when swimming normally he'll appear to have a nice high elbow recovery.

What I saw when I took this image was the great alignment of everything. I love teaching right angles in freestyle, and I loved the way everything lined up, to the point of the lead arm almost totally hidden in the reflection of the recovering arm.

This swimmer was warming up at the time, and keeping his extension very long. His head is in line, very low, and while he's breathing. He hasn't lost balance which is allowing him to maintain that great extension during the breath, and again, I love the square reflection that's being created with the recovering arm.

Also, his suit isn't yellow... it's got yellow smiley faces on a black suit. It's very manly. :) Anyway, I really liked this image and always appreciate the positive responses... find the good first, THEN critique. Standard teaching technique... praise, correct, praise. :)
