My parents had an above ground circular swimming pool in the backyard. Eah night, my mom and dad created a whirlpool by walking around the outside of the pool so that my dad could clean the bottom of the pool with one swip of the vacuum since all the dirt would collect in the center. After the whirlpool was created, dad made games out of swimming in the current: between his legs, between him and the side wall, with the current and against the current, swirling in the center with and against trhe current, etc. I learn some of my greatest lessons of flow control at an early age (3+) because of those wonderfully fun experiences with dad. The skills paid off later in my swimming career (and around the pool during summer days playing "Marco Polo" with "the gang"...)

Today is my Dad's birthday. Friday the 13th. I added a picture my Mom sent to me of my Dad and me watching my brothers swimming. He and my Mom started us all swimming because they knew we wouldn't be big enough to do anything else. :) Good call folks. Miss you tons Dad.
