What is a tether?

It's basically a length of surgical tubing. One end attaches to a belt worn around your waist. The other end attaches to a starting block or laneline bolt. You can swim resisted against the tether...as well as assisted with the tether. There are several brands, but here's a link to one of them that I like.

The color choice relates to how strong you are as a swimmer. For most swimmers, the MILD version is plenty tough. With the red, when swimming against the tether, you may end up swimming in place rather than making it to the end of a 25-yard pool.
