What is EZ

Responded Mar 12, 2008 10:56AM

I believe EZ is short for easy. In this case it means low effort.

Responded Mar 12, 2008 12:13PM

Exactly! Easy.

Glenn: Great new site!! One thought; when I go to "print page" above the,say,BreastrokeKick/SwimSetwith Tempo Trainer" and hit print- it prints four pages while the workout is just a little over one page long. Lots of responces and other stuff. I can limit the pages if I use my toolbar but that means guessing the length. I dont know if there is a way to fix this other then waiting until its in the archive. barry

I recently bought 5 TTs for my team (in part to the endorsements here) and I've got a question on how to use it for breaststroke. On the kick portions of this practice it is easy -- set the TT and kick every time it beeps. When you swim the breaststroke, however, how should the pull & kick be coordinated with the TT? Should you just kick (or pull) every time it beeps or do one each beep? I hope that makes sense. Thanks for the help.

Hi Barry,

It appears that the developer has made "print friendly pages", so that only the initial entry is printed. This still comes out as two pages... but much better than four... and less ink as well.

I'm also interested in the response regarding Coach Ds question.
I also have another that has confused me for some time.
If the swimmer is doing 12X50 on a 1.05 send off does this mean that every 50 needs to be completed in exactly 65 seconds or can they swim faster and rest for the period until the 65 seconds elapses?

Responded Mar 23, 2008 09:00PM

The sendoff is the 1:05, which does mean they'll need to swim faster, and then rest until the 1:05 for the next 50.

Theoretically, the swimmers will be going say, :40 seconds for the 50's, and then take :25 seconds rest until the next 50 starts.

Hope that helps.

Hi Coach D,
I have a "preferred" place on the breaststroke kick and on the breaststroke swim where I like to hear the beep, but I try not to adjust my stroke to make this happen. If I come off the turn and pullout,, and the beep happens on the insweep, I just go with it. On the next length, the beep might happen during the breath, and I just go with it.

With that said, on the breaststroke kick, I like to hear the beep as the feet come together. When I'm swimming breaststroke, I like to hear it as I'm reaching full extension. Hope this helps.

For the 50s, you should aim for a sendoff that gives about 15 seconds rest on the kicks and 25 seconds rest on the swims (enough time to change your Tempo Trainer setting).

A question about time given for pushoffs and turns when using the TT : how many beeps ? Should we have a short pushoff and turn, or do we have to calculate the number of beeps ? By the way, what is the expected pushoff for breaststroke / fly / back / free ?
During breaststroke pushoff, the beeps disturb me as I try to stay streamlined as long as I can.

I kind of tune out the TT during pushoffs, but when I'm thinking about it, I tend to do this:
BEEP... feet leave the wall
BEEP... pull down
BEEP... recover the arms
BEEP... reach extension after the first full stroke
That's with the TT at 1:70 to 1:80.

If you're trying to stay streamlined as long as possible, you may be waiting a little too long to start your pulldown. You don't want to bleed off too much speed or lose your momentum.

It sounds very quick to me to have just 1 beep to complete underwater kick + head out water + extension + first full stroke. Do you kick simultaneously with arms recovery ?
If you stop the TT during pushoffs, does it mean you turn it on while swimming ?
I can't imagine myself doing that ! First I have to find where the two buttons are (the TT turns on its base) ; second I try several attempts to push on both of them ; and very often as one finger is pushing longer than the other one I modify the tempo and go on swimming wondering what new tempo I have just set ! Sometimes I need to stop in order to have a look at the TT and... it's hard to read it with misty goggles, so I take them off , and the story goes on.....

I don't turn the TT off during turns. I just tune it out -- I don't pay much attention to it and don't let it dictate how I do my turn and pullout.

It's one beep for the pull down and one beep to recover the arms and complete the kick. I start the arm recovery before I start to set up the legs for the underwater kick.
