I think at this point you might want to ahve your chin already tucked in. And perhaps her fingers closed a little bt more.

I just have to ask about the thumb! - assuming the thumb is tucked in intentionally I must assume she is performing a drill, but to what purpose ? It may help to know a little about the swimmer ?

As a 16 year old, she swims a :57 100 yard fly.

I think her head position is just right at this point. If it were tucked down any further it would take to much effort/energy to bring it up for the breath.

Thanks Glenn - seems like that popular game show "20 questions" (admitedly it was popular 30 years ago). Well, she's certainly 'loaded' - still curious about the thumb !?

I think the thumb is one of those things that just happens to some. It's also one of those things that if we focus too hard to change it (because it's natural), we'll end up messing up something else. I also LOVE that her hands are so relaxed at this point in the stroke (hence the potw signification). Her hands are so soft at this point, and are ready for the rebound of the body... THEN she can catch, and close the fingers up a bit.

Thanks Glenn, you've whetted my appetite. She's obviously a really good fly swimmer. It'd be great to see the next few frames too :o)

She is demonstrating the outstanding shoulder extension and flex characteristic of all really good flyers. And makes it look easy because of that looseness.
