Pic of the Week - July 28, 2006

Fast freestyle. With all the championship meets coming next week, think of your swimming as FAST! But don't shorten your stroke just to get a faster turnover. Make sure you get everything out of EACH stroke.

Now, tell us what you think of this week's Pic.

Great extension of the arm with good rotation

What do you say about the depth of her leading hand? Would it not be safer for her shoulder if she was extending her hand about 8"-12" lower?

then again water could be bending the view. But if it is what it looks like. I'd agree that with her great rotation her arm and hand could be more even with the depth of the rotation.

What you also can't tell from a still photo is WHERE in the depth of her extension is she? Can we really say if her hand has reached it's lowest depth while still being extended yet? Good points, but also, if she goes from where she is, and rolls into that deeper hand position, the momentum of the water may also help her get into a better catch position sooner. If her hand initiates this move too deep, she'll miss the effect of the water helping. Just a thought.

Glenn...take a good look at that picture.
The critics of "front quadrant swimming" argue that at this precise point the swimmer has no propulsion from her arms and therefore anybody trying to swim in this way MUST have a great kick in order to maintain forward motion.
I have always told them that in fact at this precise point she has forward movement that comes from her left arm pull that just ended, and to some extent also from her kick that not neccesarilly needs to be a great one.
What is your thought on this one?

OK. Sounds good.

she must have some propulsion from her arms as she is creating a tremendous wake with her head.great rotation, and i love the position of her head to her leading arm.she looks like forward motion. nice.
