It is nice to see how the swimmer bends his elbow at a low angle during the stroke to support his wrist for a strong.Pardon me if i find something very common interesting.

Great catch of the water and rotation.....

Interesting to see the head is tilted a little forward or 'up' rather than down flat. I also note the bend in his elbow at the low angle during the stroke. His hips are perfectly positioned. Fantastic photo, I have learnt a lot and hope to improve on my backstroke.

It's really tough to get this kind of grip on the water if the initial hand entry is wrong. If the hands enter too high at the 12 O'clock position you would have to bend your torso out of line to catch. Notice that the fingers are pointed slightly down as well.
Swimmers rarely have a feel for what they are doing, so I often have to tell them to move the clock hands by an hour
(daylight savings) or maybe just a half hour.

Why are words needed? It is an American artist!

Another reason this shot is cool is that it shows the depth of his pull. Sometimes the kids I coach want to catch immediately when their hands enter the water rather than sending their arms deeper first. Here you can see how pull depth and rotation fit together perfectly.

Mmmmm backstroke. Are you guys putting out another backstroke DVD - and if so how soon?

Is it just me or does his thumb appear to be pointing out perpendicular to his hand as opposed to flat against the fingers?

A great picture.

Guys, A brilliant photo capturing a superb rotation, streamline, and a wonderful shot of the catch.. Well done :)

a picture is worth 1000 words

Its intersting to see what I should be doing in the catch. My coach constantly tells me I'm ether not rotating enough, or my arm is way off. Its a very nice catch. Its also good to see that there arent many bubbles reducing drag.

Good shot. It shows how much you should tilt and proper positioning.

Responded May 19, 2006 09:59PM

Great demonstration of body alignment!

This is a a great shot of the catch. It really gives some of us novice swimmers something to work up to.
